zxnRadar
zxnRadar is the program zxn.uk uses to check public UK business websites once a week. If you are reading this, it probably appeared in your website’s logs. It introduces itself like this:
zxnRadar/1.0 (+https://zxn.uk/radar-bot)
zxn.uk is a trading name of Mediant Partners Ltd, registered in Scotland, company number SC889184, with its registered office at 5 South Charlotte Street, Edinburgh, Scotland, EH2 4AN. VAT number: GB526843179.
Why we do it
We do market research on UK business websites, and we look for businesses that zxn.uk could help. Our legal basis is legitimate interests. If we do get in touch with a business, it is one-to-one, never mass mail.
What it reads
- Your public home page, plus at most 3 key pages such as your about, contact or services page. That is at most 4 pages per site per week.
- It follows your robots.txt file. It looks for the name
zxnRadar. - It makes one request at a time to your site and waits its turn, and it gives up after 10 seconds.
- It never logs in and never submits a form. The weekly check reads the page code without running your scripts.
- When a site is new to us or has been redesigned, it may also take one screenshot of the home page in a standard browser, which loads the page as a visitor would.
What it keeps
- Business facts about the website: the technology it uses, when it changed, and business details you publish, such as a company number, VAT number, business phone number and generic addresses like info@.
- A text and HTML copy of a page (a snapshot), saved when the page changes, and the occasional screenshot. We keep snapshots and screenshots for 400 days, then delete them.
- Sometimes a short summary of what the business offers, written by an AI model from the page text.
It does not collect personal social media profiles or personal email addresses. If you trade as a sole trader under your own name, we treat that name as business information, and you can opt out in the same way. We keep business facts while your site is live and delete them 400 days after we last see it.
The data is stored with Cloudflare in the EU. Cloudflare also runs the scanner, the screenshots and the AI summaries on its network for us. A copy of the weekly change history is backed up with Google Cloud in London.
How to block it
Add these two lines to your robots.txt file. zxnRadar reads the file on its next visit and then leaves your site alone.
