Explosive Boxing

The brief

Explosive Boxing & Fitness runs boxing fitness and technique classes in Canterbury, from beginner to contact. Its old website used an add-on to take bookings.

The new site was built so that a visitor can see what is on, pick a class and pay for it in one go, with no account to create.

What the site does

• Book and pay for a class without an account

Visitors can book any class, add their details and a short health declaration, and pay by card, Apple Pay or Google Pay. Card details go straight to a secure payment company, so the gym never sees or stores them. A confirmation email with a private link follows. Existing customers were carried over from the old booking system so they could keep booking.

• See the week’s classes and the spaces left

Visitors can see each class with its day, time, price and the spaces left, switch between a day list and a calendar, and filter by class type. The home page shows the week’s classes as well.

• Buy a class pass

Visitors can buy a pass of four, eight or ten classes on its own page. Each is valid for 31 days from the first class, and the buyer chooses their classes when they pay.

• Know the move and cancel rules before booking

Visitors can read the policy on the booking page: a class can be moved for free, or cancelled for a refund, up to 24 hours before it starts, and not after that.

• Join a waitlist or ask a question

When a class is full, visitors can leave a name and email and are emailed if a space opens. Anyone unsure which class to start with can use the message form, WhatsApp link, phone number or map link.

Also in place: Two links from the old website still work, and a privacy notice, terms, cookie choices, security protections and pages Google can read are all live.

Measured results

Google’s own speed and quality checks on the live site, on a slow phone connection and on a desktop, plus an automatic accessibility check of three pages. We have no measurements of the old site, so these figures stand alone.

• 97/100Speed on a phoneMembers checking the timetable on a phone are not left waiting for it to load.
• 100/100On a phone, in each of three checks: ease of use, good standards and Google readabilityMembers find it easy to use on a phone, and Google can read it, so new people can find the gym.
• 2.3 secondsTime before the page is useful on a phone with a slow connectionA member on a slow phone connection can start picking a class in about 2.3 seconds.
• 100/100On a computer, in each of four checks: speed, ease of use, good standards and Google readabilitySomeone booking from a computer gets the same quick, easy, well-built site.
• None foundAutomatic check for accessibility problems on the home, timetable and passes pagesThe check found nothing to fix on three pages, though automatic checks only catch some problems.
